Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Drone Mass at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Join Icelandic composer, Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee, Jóhann Jóhannsson, American Contemporary Music Ensemble and 2014 Grammy Award-winning vocal emsemble Roomful of Teeth as they perform world premiere pieces, Chaconne and Drone Mass. The compositions incorporate texts from Egyptian Coptic Gospels and will be performed in the stunning Temple of Dendur, among ancient Egyptian artifacts. Tickets are $40.

“Buena Vista Social Club” at MoMA
Head over to the MoMA on Tuesday afternoon for a quick jaunt through time. Directed by Wim Wenders, “Buena Vista Social Club” (1999) explores the trials and tribulations of musicians Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Ruben Gonzalez, and Eliades Ochoa, members of the infamous Cuban group. The film is made particularly relevant again in the context of the recent warming in relations between Cuba and the United States.

“Fatal Attraction: Piotr Uklanski Photographs” opens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Provocative artist Piotr Uklanski delivers unique photography in this museum retrospective. Uklanski, who is also known for such mediums as fibert art, resin paintings and collage, uses his The Joy of Photography and The Nazis series to capture both episodes of modernism as well as his passion for the media.

WEDNESDAY March 18
Paul Wirhun’s “Under the Sea” opens at Ivy Brown Gallery
Wirhun’s captivating works consist of adhering broken eggshells to found wood. “I have worked on eggshells since I was a child, learning the traditional Ukrainian art of pysanky from my mother,” says the artist. The exhibit runs until April 12th.

THURSDAY March 19
Rubin Museum of Art’s Asia Week Celebration
In conjunction with Asia Week New York (see The Go-To Guide for Asia Week 2015), the evening celebrates the opening of “Becoming Another: The Power of Masks,” featuring 100 masks from a plethora of cultures including Siberia, Mongolia, Japan and the Himalayans. The exhibition will focus on the unique craftsmanship and production process involved in creating masks from the 15th through the 20th centuries. The occasion includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a performance. RSVP required.

Young Collectors Party at the Guggenheim
Featuring a musical performance by DJ Afrika Bambaataa, the Young Collectors Party raises funds to support the acquisition of works by emerging artists, strengthening the Guggenheim’s contemporary collection. Drinks and dessert are included in this pricey event: tickets are $200 for YCC Members and $250 otherwise.

SATURDAY March 21
Janine Antoni “From the Vow Made” at Luhring Augustine
For the past seven years, Antoni has found inspiration in movement and dance in an exploration of “what it means to live from an embodied place.” This solo show will present seven sculptural works along with Honey Baby, a video collaboration with the choreographer Stephen Petronio.
