Milan, capital of Lombardy and prominently featured in Vittorio de Sica’s and Luchino Visconti’s movies, is the second-most populous city in Italy, after Rome. Known as the financial center of the country, Milan also hosts a wide range of cultural and international events, such as Fashion Week and the Universal Exposition, taking place in 2015. Art lovers can appreciate the Santa Maria delle Grazie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site decorated with Leonardo da Vinci paintings, while soccer fans can follow the games of its two major teams. In addition, the city plays host to a number of local art events. Check out works by some of the most well-known Italian artists at Jerome Zodo Contemporary, including Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Dadamaino, and Lucio Fontana, among others. If you like kinetic art, you have the opportunity to see Alberto Biasi at the MAAB Gallery. Starting today is a group show at the Galleria Giuseppe Pero exploring themes of fear, and urging us to act through artworks by Marina Abramović, Andres Serrano, and Nan Goldin. If you’re keen on discovering new artists, visit the Brand New Gallery to see pieces by Mexico City-based Nico Colón, or monochrome paintings by Martin Basher and Henry Codax.

Ending soon, don’t miss the group exhibition at Lisson Gallery, and enjoy sculptures, drawings, and installations by Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, and Ai Weiwei. Considered part of the Pictures Generation, Louise Lawler presents her latest works at the Studio Guenzani, and continues her research on how the work of art functions in its environment.

Don’t hesitate to visit Milan, city of surprises! And as Giuseppe Verdi once said, “You may have the universe if I may have Italy.”
