Must-See Art Guide: Paris
Be different and enjoy some Parisian gallery shows outside the art fair circuit.
Oh Paris, city of lights, fashion, and art! Whether you like impressive architecture, elegant objects, or beautiful artworks, the French capital is for you. This month is packed with art events in Paris, with Art & Design Élysées, Outsider Art Fair, and FIAC all opening this week. In this stimulating atmosphere, seize the opportunity to attend a few art events outside of the art fair circuit. You have a few days left to enjoy some shows. Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire is showing works by Emmanuelle Villard, while Galerie Bendana | Pinel has assembled new works by the Brazilian artist Pablo Lobato. In addition, Campoli Presti celebrates the abstract paintings of Amy Sillman in the exhibition “A Moveable Feast – Part XIV,” opening on October 23. If you’re interested in sculpture, you will be delighted with the last pieces created by the master of Modern sculpture Anthony Caro at the Galerie Daniel Templon. Or you can pay a visit the Rodin museum and admire works by new talents, including Gregory Gicquel and Daniel Dewar. Some Parisian galleries are also highlighting contemporary artists, such as Blair Thurman at Galerie Frankie Elbaz, and Adam McEwen at Galerie Art Concept. If post-conceptual art is your cup of tea—or should we say café noir—stop at the Galerie Chantal Crousel, and enjoy artworks by Seth Price, or at the Galerie Perrotin, for installations by Wim Delvoye.
Last but not least, the end of October marks two major events. Closed for more than four years for renovation and expansion, the highly anticipated reopening of the Picasso Museum, whose collection consists of 5,000 artworks and tens of thousands of archived pieces by the master, will thrill all art lovers. And the Fondation Louis Vuitton will officially open its doors on October 27. Designed by Frank Gehry, the impressive building is an art museum and cultural center dedicated to contemporary art, and will present artworks by the American architect for its grand opening, alongside works by Ellsworth Kelly, Olafur Eliasson, and Bertrand Lavier, to name a few. No time to waste, so much to see. Paris sera toujours Paris !
