Spain is known for many things: Queen Letizia, paella, bullfighting, and Spanish art, one of the greatest cultural treasures of the world. During the 20th century, Spanish painting gained international recognition thanks to Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Salvador Dalí.

Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain, and, the upcoming art fair, ARCOmadrid, will attract lovers of contemporary art from around the world. Located in the Golden Triangle of Art, are some of the most important museums in Europe, including the Museo del Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and the Museo de Arte Thyssen-Bornemisza. In addition, the city has a number of notable art galleries. During ARCO, you will have a chance to see a solo exhibition of works by Uruguayan artist Joaquin Torres-García at Galería Leandro Navarro. This show presents his manufactured wood toys, called Aladdin Toys. Spanish contemporary art can be seen in the group exhibition “La Realidad y el Deseo” at Fernández-Braso, with paintings, sculptures, and photography.

Located on the Mediterranean, Barcelona is also worth a visit for every art lover. At the end of the 19th century, a unique form of Art Noveau was born here. Its most prominent representative was Antoni Gaudí, who lived and worked in the city, where you can see many of his famous buildings and sites, such as the Park Güell and the Sagrada Família cathedral. In addition, the city has its own art museum dedicated to Joan Miró, the Fundació Joan Miró. To see even more works by Miró, pay a visit to the Mayoral Galeria d’Art, highlighting his works and works by American sculptor Alexander Calder. Also showing sculpture is 3 Punts Galeria, featuring the latest works by Gerard Mas, executed in materials such as stone, alabaster, marble, and wood.

Enjoy the Spanish art culture and your siesta in the sun. Viva España!
