Whitney Museum Releases Poster for Jeff Koons Retrospective, Comparing Him to Michelangelo (What?)

The poster features Koons's playful interpretation of Michelangelo's David.

On Tuesday, April 1, the Whitney Museum of American Art released the official poster for “Jeff Koons: A Retrospective,” the final exhibition to take place in the institution’s longtime home on Madison Avenue, designed by Marcel Breuer, which it will vacate at the end of the year before reopening in 2015 in the Meatpacking District. (The Metropolitan Museum is due to take over the building and use it as an annex for its contemporary and modern art collection and exhibitions.) The poster features a new piece from Koons’s recent “Gazing Ball” series, showcased last year at David Zwirner.
