Art Stars Will Judge Tom of Finland Art Competition

For its 10th annual competition for emerging queer artists, the Tom of Finland Foundation has asked a group of 10 major art stars to judge the submissions. According to ArtLyst, the roster includes Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset of Elmgreen & Dragset, Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide-Pierson of assume vivid astro focus, Richard Hawkins, Bruce LaBruce, Helmut Lang, Linder, and A.L Steiner.

The competition is renowned as an open forum for emerging queer artists to showcase their work without fear of negativity or censorship. The grand prize winner will receive an original Tom of Finland preparatory drawing, a complementary booth at the Tom of Finland Foundation Art Fair, foundation membership, exhibition opportunities, and the honor of having their work examined by such a star-studded panel of judges. Second and third place winners will also be rewarded with  prizes. According to the foundation’s website, “the competition is open to any artist with the exception of previous winners of this competition, or artists who are already commercially selling work that portrays sexuality.”
