Experts Say Malaysia Flight 370 Crashed in Indian Ocean, Chinese Artists Presumed Dead
According to the New York Times, data analysis confirmed that Malaysia Airlines flight 370 crashed into the Indian Ocean. The plane’s last known position, described by Malaysia’s prime minister, Najib Razak, as “a remote location, far from any possible landing sites,” effectively ends any remaining hope that the 239 passengers and crew—including 19 Chinese artists—could still be alive.
artnet News previously shared some biographical information on three of the missing artists, including Liu Rusheng, a Chinese artist and calligrapher, and the plane’s oldest passenger. A report from the Sydney Morning Herald earlier today recounted Liu’s claims that he had cheated death six times, surviving a Japanese invasion, a car crash, a near-drowning, and three heart attacks. Now, however, Liu’s luck appears to have run out.
The search for the plane’s wreckage will continue.
