Art Basel is big news in Miami, and the #Ferguson2Miami protests last night were big news too. With traffic already snarled as a result of the fair week frenzy, a peaceful vigil against police brutality last night swelled into large-scale civil disobedience, as hundreds marched onto I-195 against traffic, blocking lanes. (Art reporter Jillian Steinhauer was on the ground, and has an extensive report.)

Reporting from Wynwood, CBS4’s Brian Andrews explained the situation, standing in front of the Art Miami pavilion in Wynwood: “Here we are looking at all the art, and with the world looking at all the art the protesters knew that they could get some attention. So they got on social media using hashtags like #Ferguson2Miami and #ReefaLives and took their protest not only up the street, but up onto the expressway over there.”

Aerial footage of the protest from CBS4 shows the scale of the ensuing backup—“a sea of headlights,” as the news anchors put it.

There were no arrests and no injuries.
