French Culture Minister Ramps Up Support for Art Galleries

Aurélie Filippetti, the French minister for culture and communication, has launched a new fund to support commercial contemporary art galleries.

Managed by the IFCIC (Institut pour le financement du cinéma et des industries culturelles), Farga (Fonds d’avances remboursables aux galeries d’art) will lend up to €100,000 ($137,085) to the selected galleries for a period of between 12 and 48 months. The focus is on development projects and galleries are to be selected on the entrepreneurial flair of their endeavor.

The CNAP (Centre national des arts plastiques) will also take on new responsibilities and support the presence of French galleries on the international scene via loans for the production of new artworks, grants for the publication of catalogues, and for first exhibitions.
