The Los Angeles-based J. Paul Getty Trust saw its endowment reach $6.2 billion in 2013, nearly matching its pre-recession peak of $6.4 billion from 2007. The Getty has seen significant financial gains thanks to a 13.7 percent return on investment in the last fiscal year, well above the 11.7 percent nationwide average for similar institutions. Spending has also been down for the Getty, with budget levels remaining 20 percent below 2007 levels once adjusted for inflation. The trust operates the Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute, and the Getty Conservation Institute.
