Louis Vuitton Foundation Will Open During FIAC

The long-awaited Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation will open to the public on October 27. The €100 million museum is designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. The foundation expects to open with an exhibition showcasing Frank Gehry’s design in dialogue with the first European retrospective of the architect at the Centre Pompidou, which opens on October 8.
The building design features 12 sails formed by an expanse of glass panels. The Foundation, located in the Bois de Boulogne district, west of Paris, will house a permanent collection including works from the LVMH Group and from chairman Bernard Arnault’s personal collection as well as temporary exhibitions and artist commissions throughout its 11 galleries. The LVMH Group’s collection is comprised of primarily modern and contemporary art.
Arnault set the foundation into motion in 2006 in order to further support contemporary artistic creation. Arnault, France’s richest man, announced Sunday that a launch event for the foundation will take place on October 20th, followed by three days of free admission coinciding with the FIAC art fair.
