New Cultural Space to Open in London in September
A new public space for contemporary art is opening in the Greenwich Peninsula, London, on September 17, 2014. The gallery, named NOW GALLERY, is a permanent, free public space designed by architect Marks Barfield. The program at the gallery will include a revolving series of three-month commissions from both established and emerging artists, designers, and creatives. The first commission has been awarded to Simon Heidjens, who will show the site-specific immersive installation that will take place in two parts from September 19 through December 19 of this year.
NOW Gallery curator, Jemima Burrill, says, “Our aim is to have installations not yet dreamed of with an expandable theme. The space is a unique canvas for artists, sculptors, fashion designers, graphic artists and creatives to conjure up exhibits that are playful, inspiring and that bring alive our unconventional gallery space. Thinking out of the box and filling the space in an alternative way is what we are looking for in future commissions.”
