Prince William and Kate Party at the Met

The royal couple celebrated the 600th anniversary of their alma mater, St. Andrews University.

Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s frenzied stay in New York came to a close with a dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in celebration of the 600th anniversary of their alma mater, St. Andrews University.

The Royal couple were entertained by some very famous New Yorkers including Anna Wintour, Princess Eugenie, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Olivier Sarkozy. The dinner, which was held in the room housing the Temple of Dendur, boasted approximately 450 guests who each paid about $10,000 to attend.

Duchess Kate Middleton donned a flowing teal Jenny Packham dress that showed off her developing baby bump. It was actually the gown’s third outing—she wore it in October to a dinner in support of women in hedge funds, and again in April to the National Portrait Gallery. First Lady Michelle Obama has also been known to stretch the same outfits to several high-profile events.

Prince William gave a speech that praised both the academic rigor and the hard-partying atmosphere of the university. “I don’t need to tell all of you just how much St Andrew’s University means to me and Catherine,” he began. “It goes without saying to those in this room that the education we received there was first class…but it’s often said by the undergraduates of St Andrews that you leave the university in either one of two states: either married or an alcoholic.”

Clearly, we know how it worked out for the Royal couple, who left to go back to Britain after the soiree. But prior to the lavish evening, the pair paid a visit to the 9/11 memorial and museum, where they took a guided tour of the underground museum and left flowers complete with a touching handwritten note by the reflecting pools outside. According to New York Daily News, Kate was struck by “the enormity of the space.”
