San Diego Non-Profit Art Pulse Shutters

Art Pulse, a San Diego-based non-profit that runs Culture Buzz and Art Pulse TV, is closing its doors due to lack of funding, reports San Diego City Beat. According to its website, the organization’s mission is “to strengthen and illuminate the arts and celebrate the culturally diverse community of San Diego County by offering programs and services that connect, educate and inspire.” In May, it was reported that the non-profit was planning to scale back its programming significantly due to the loss of financial support from Henry Moon, one of the organization’s largest donors.

Initially, executive director April Game made public her plans to seek alternative revenue streams to keep the organization afloat, amid criticism from local art enthusiasts that she had relied too heavily on funds from Moon, and had failed to create sustainability through diversified resources. Unfortunately, it appears these attempts have been unsuccessful, and Game told San Diego City Beat: “The last of the fight has been taken out of me. Art Pulse is closing.”

Art Pulse’s board of directors will meet this week to begin the process of closing up shop. The Art Pulse Gallery will shutter at the end of July. Game also claims that several outstanding invoices (about which several contributors have publicly complained) will be paid within the next two months. “At least we can say, at the end of the day, we did our best,” Game said of Art Pulse’s seven-year lifespan. “Was it good enough? I don’t know. There’s only so much a person can do.”

Art Pulse has not yet put forward a press release addressing the closure.
