Truong Tran Protests Damien Hirst With Porn

San Francisco-based artist Truong Tran has created paper butterflies out of pornographic magazines to protest Damien Hirst’s use of live insects, The Independent reports. Tran mirrored Hirst’s installation In and Out of Love (2012), by replacing the 9,000 live insects Hirst used with the cut out butterflies.

In I Meant to Say Please Pass the Sugar, Tran says that he’s attempting to “counter what [he] considers obscene–the killing of these butterflies–with [his] own artistic gesture that to many is also deemed obscene.”
