People often fault the white cube aesthetic favored by contemporary art galleries, but if you think that's oppressive and deadening, imagine being trapped in one such space with five gargantuan artworks, no exit, and no guestbook to peruse to pass the time. Artist duo Art404—Manuel Palou and Moises Sanabria—have managed to conjure that very experience with their new virtual gallery art project Gallery404 (2014).

Remember the deliberately boring and frustrating "The Artist Is Present" Marina Abramović game? This is more boring than that. The gallery, which is admittedly a demo of an open-source program that lets you build your own customized white cube exhibition space, is currently showing the exhibition The Classics, featuring digital facsimiles of big art by Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Louise Bourgeois, Constantin Brancusi, and Andy Warhol.

It's unclear how long each exhibition in the virtual gallery space will run, and how interactive the installations will become—the current installation of Warhol Brillo Box works looks climbable, but is frustratingly not—but we'd love to see some Richard Serra mazes in Gallery404's next show.
