Creative Time’s 2014 Summit began several hours ago in Stockholm, but starting at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time, you can stream it from home. In its fifth year, the summit seeks to explore the ways artists can help tackle the world’s myriad social and political issues. This is the first year the summit has left New York; it is presented with the help of Stockholm’s Public Art Agency Sweden.

Highlights include artist Jeremy Deller in conversation with Nato Thompson, a panel featuring artist Jill Magid, and keynote speeches by prime minister of Albania Edi Rama and Columbia University sociology professor Saskia Sassen.

According to a press release, the summit will pose such questions as: “Who is art in the public sphere for, and what is it supposed to do? How does art produce debate, contribute to a sense of the civic, or perhaps, more cynically, merely perpetuate the status quo? And more generally, who is the city for and how can our public spheres and its arts work across a heterogeneous space?”

By taking the conversation out of New York, these questions can be answered in a more global sense.

If you’d rather not stream alone, the Bruce High Quality Foundation is holding a viewing party today from 1–7 PM, and tomorrow from 2–7 PM.
