Two excellent New York dealers are consummating a new phase in their relationship. Zach Feuer, who has had a gallery in Chelsea since 2000, will decamp for the Lower East Side and open dual galleries with Joel Mesler of Untitled in May, reports ArtNews. Feuer currently resides at 548 West 22nd Street, next to the former Dia building, which was sold in November (see Owner of Former Dia Building Ousts Independent Fair and Zach Feuer).

“I’ve been in Chelsea for 15 years and I kinda wanted a change,” Feuer told ArtNews. “I have a better time when I see shows on the Lower East Side, and I don’t mean that as a knock on Chelsea in any way.”

Both Feuer and Mesler made artnet News’ list of best-regarded art dealers last year (see The Most Admired Art Dealers of 2014).

Feuer represents artists including Mark Flood, Jon Rafman, Elaine Reichek, and Phoebe Washburn. Untitled works with David Adamo, Kour Pour, and Artie Vierkant, among others. Now on view at Feuer is a show devoted to Brad Troemel; at Untitled is a solo by Henry Taylor.

The new galleries, called Feuer/Mesler will be situated in a 3,500-square-foot loft at 319 Grand Street. Untitled, which has been in business since 2010, at 30 Orchard Street, will take on the new gallery name Mesler/Feuer. Feuer/Mesler will debut its new space with Keren Cytter and Jon Rafman while the inversely-named Mesler/Feuer will open with a solo show by Brie Ruais.

The merger is only the newest step in an existing partnership. The two opened a venue in upstate Hudson, New York, in January 2014, with a solo show devoted to Jamian Juliano-Villani (see When Is Artist-on-Artist Theft Okay? Jamian Juliano-Villani and Scott Teplin Duke it Out). Their first joint effort was the 2013 group show “Jew York,” which took place across both of their galleries.

Now, Feuer tells ArtNews, “we can be in two places at once.”
