Gallery Hopping on Thursdays: May 30, 2013

This week we’re checking out photographic projects.

Jeremy Kidd, Tower Bridge 1, Catto Gallery, London, UK

In London, Catto Gallery presents the work of Los Angeles-based artist Jeremy Kidd, whose energizing painterly compositions detail the urbanscape by blending the geometry of architectural elements with an intense palette of arbitrary colors. The spiritual and visceral overtones of this series of works embody the artist’s commanding force in conveying his minor stature against the wholeness and complexities of major cities, such as Sydney, New York, and London, as seen in the works Sydney Opera I, Times Square I, and Tower Bridge 1. Kidd’s composite photographic method of using multiple shots to produce a single scene, encompassing the shifting conditions of each environment, speaks to his receptivity to sight and sense.

Jeremy Kidd will be on view from May 30 to June 18 at 100 Heath Street, London W3 1DP UK.

Dionisio González will showcase Le Corbusier: The Last Project, his first compilation of works at Ivorypress, which explores various architectural projects that never made it to fruition by the master architect Le Corbusier (Swiss, 1887–1965). In this bold series, set to open before the kick-off of PHotoEspaña, the International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts in Madrid, Spain, the artist determines to depict these large-scale architectural scenes as a manifestation of ruins in a space and time that remain undecipherable. Expansive and desolate landscapes dominate the striking compositions that are both ominous and picturesque. Shore scenes and vast, clear blue skies such as in Dauphin 10 engulf the frameworks of modern architectural feats that were never fulfilled in the same way the design of an ideal paradise lingers in the musings of the artist.

Dionisio González ‘Le Corbusier: The Last Project’ will be on view from May 30 to July 13 at C/Comandante Zorita, 46-48, 28020 Madrid, Spain.
