The Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Art Exhibition Program

John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective

Past exhibition: John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation, Museum of Contemporary Photography,Chicago, IL, July 2–September 26, 2010

Building a collection to share with one’s community is a galvanizing decision art collectors make in a special philanthropic commitment to the arts. Two of these quality collections that resonate so deeply in our Contemporary print community are the Jordan D. Schnitzer Collection and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Collection, which have combined holdings of over 7,000 prints. The exceptional content of these merged collections spans an impressive five decades of Contemporary printmaking. This body of prints provides substantial content for traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural outreach projects throughout the United States. And of primary importance is the availability of these collections, which are offered to the viewing public through a far reaching exhibition program. The exhibitions travel year round and often times have accompanying catalogs that add to an ever growing body of scholarship on a particular highlighted artist or on a curatorial theme presented.

The best way to understand the Contemporary print market, for both young and seasoned collectors , is to define and study the multitude of published projects by artists who have historically worked in depth in various printmaking media. Educating one’s eye happens with exposure to the work and the intense scholarship behind dedicated collections. The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation’s exhibition program provides an invaluable resource to the collector, curator consultant, and dealer alike.  The prints found in this collection can also be researched and sourced through our own artnet community through our many participant print dealers, galleries, and artnet Auctions.
