Inside Mia Fonssagrives-Solow’s Airy, Sculpture-Filled Studio

Irving Penn's stepdaughter sculpts her own legacy.

Mia Fonssagrives-Solow, stepdaughter of Irving Penn and daughter of model Lisa Fonssagrives, as well as the wife of real estate mogul Sheldon Solow, has been creating works of sculpture, collage, painting, and fine jewelry for decades. Her work has been shown at Eric Firestone Gallery, Liman Gallery, and Feingarten Gallery, and her fine jewelry collection, for which she is best known, features pieces like a chic robot pendant in silver or gold and is available at Grey Area and Gagosian Shop. We took a peek into her sun-drenched East Hampton studio where she creates large, abstract sculptures as well as whimsical figures of animals and robots in both metal and wood.
