Berlin Art Week may not officially kick off until this evening, but members of the art world elite descended on the Soho House Berlin rooftop Sunday night to sip cocktails in honor of “most consequential artist to have emerged since the nineteen-eighties,” Ryan Trecartin. The artist opened his latest show with longstanding collaborator Lizzie Fitch, “Site Visit,” at the KW Institute of Contemporary Art just the night before, which premieres the first in a new series of works Fitch and Trecartin shot in a disused Masonic Temple last year.

MoMA PS1 director Klaus Biesenbach threw the bash, which welcomed artists like Shepard Fairey, AA BronsonAngela Bulloch, Monica Bonvicini, and Willem de Rooij, dealers Andrea Rosen and Javier Peres, and a wealth of other guests such as musician Inga Humpe, actor Clemens Schick, Angelika Taschen, Karen Boros, and US Ambassador to Germany John B. Emerson.

The rest of Berlin Art Week kicks off Tuesday night with the opening of the exhibition portion of the Akademie der Künste’s year-long “Vertigo of Reality” series of performances, talks, and shows. ArtFi, the Fine Art and Finance Conference takes place on Wednesday ahead of a slew of gallery openings across Mitte and Kreuzberg. Art Berlin Contemporary (abc) opens on Thursday with 111 galleries showing 115 single artist propositions. And the week closes out with further rounds of gallery and museum openings on Friday and Saturday.
