1. Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life at Socrates Sculpture Park

Due to a reschedule because of inclement weather earlier in the summer, here’s another chance to see Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, part of the Outdoor Cinema series. French pop star Serge Gainsbourg’s (romantic) life gets the graphic treatment by comic book artist Joann Sfar.

“Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life” will be screened at 32-01 Vernon Boulevard on August 26 at 7 p.m.

2. “Chandigarh Is in India” at Light Industry 

A series of screenings that explore the planning and manufacture of the Indian city of Chandigarh, curated by Shanjay Jhaveri. The films, by both Indian and Western artists, aim to change the perception of the crumbling city as “merely a stage set for Corbusier’s modernist magnum opus.”

“Chandigarh Is in India” will take place at 155 Freeman Street on August 27 at 7:30 p.m.

3. MoMA Nights with Tei Shi
The singer and songwriter Tei Shi will perform a set based on her EP Verde. The Brooklyn-based musician brings her eclectic sound, which mixes shoegaze and R&B—to this unique outdoor venue.

MoMA Nights with Tei Shi will take place in the Sculpture Garden on August 27 at 6:30 p.m.

4. Frida al Fresco Evening at the New York Botanical Garden
Gizel Xanath joins The Villalobos Brothers for an evening of live music on the grounds of the Botanical Garden. To coincide with FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life, “a rare display of more than a dozen original Kahlo paintings and works on paper,” the events celebrate the artist’s Mexican heritage.

The Summer Concert Series will take place in the Conservatory Pavilion Tent on August 27 at 6:30 p.m.

5. 99 Objects: Loren Connors on Four Darks in Red by Mark Rothko at The Whitney Museum of American Art

Composer and musician Loren Connors will speak about Rothko’s Four Darks in Red for the Whitney’s 99 Objects series, which features programs on particular works of art from the museum’s collection.

99 Objects: Loren Connors on Four Darks in Red by Mark Rothko will take place on the 7th floor of the museum at 8 p.m.
