What if Your Favorite Artists Had Tinder Profiles?
How would Koons, Mapplethorpe, and Kahlo look for love online?
Tinder and other online dating services, it’s often said, have changed love and romance forever. They create a human marketplace, where love is always seemingly just a click or a swipe away.
And romance, love, and sex have provided inspiration to artists throughout the ages. So what would it be like to come across some of your favorite artists and have to decide whether to swipe right or left? We imagined Tinder profiles of some of our favorite artists, and we offer them below in their own words.
When I have sex with someone I forget who I am. For a minute I even forget I’m human. It’s the same thing when I’m behind a camera. I forget I exist. Whenever you make love to someone, there should be three people involved—you, the other person, and the devil.
Last night I felt as if many wings caressed me all over, as if your fingertips had mouths that kissed my skin. I tried to get as close to you as I could in order to sense you, to enjoy your incomparable caress, the pleasure that it is to touch you. I would like to give you the prettiest colors, I want to kiss you, I want our dream worlds to be one. If sometimes you suffer, I want to fill you with tenderness so that you feel better.
Women don’t paint very well. It’s a fact. But you must know that I do love women. Yes, I’m constantly in love.
A lot of people my age are jaded. I am the opposite. A lot of men, their career peaks when they’re in their 40s. But women keep going. It’s the same as sex. Men have one big ejaculation, whereas women just keep coming and coming.
I’m not a masochistic person. I don’t emphasize pain. We can talk about suffering but then we have to talk about freedom. Or we can talk about freedom, but we also have to talk about discipline. There are many things interwoven.
In the beginning men are fascinated by you, but during the process of the relationship, they do everything to change you. Now I’m thinking maybe I should get a turtle or something, I’m not sure, but probably even this is too much.
With just one polka dot, nothing can be achieved.
If I think of the word beauty, I think of the word vagina … or the ass.
