Moscow’s Garage Museum of Contemporary Art has announced the list of 63 artists participating in the first Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art, the biggest survey of contemporary Russia art practice ever conducted.

A six-person curatorial team led by chief curator Kate Fowle has crisscrossed the country, visiting 42 cities and towns across eleven time zones to discover what’s happening in Russian art today. The largest, geographically, of any nation on earth, Russia is home to some 100 languages and close to 200 nationalities.

Featuring artists from age 19 to 69, “the exhibition captures the zeitgeist of the past five years, focusing on some of the most active and influential cultural figures, and offering insight into the diversity of social tendencies that constitute the underexplored Russian art scene,” according to a statement from the museum. All of the work included in the show has been created since 2012, when a highly contested election saw Vladimir Putin return to power.

The exhibition, one of the most-anticipated additions to the international art world calendar, is slated to take place March 10–May 14, and is timed to the 100th anniversary of the Russian revolution. Fowle and her team have broken down the exhibition into seven sections that reflect themes at work among the country’s artists: Master Figure, Personal Mythologies, Fidelity to Place, Common Language, Art in Action, Street Morphology, and Local Histories of Art.

The Garage Museum, founded in 2008 by art collector Dasha Zhukova, debuted a new Rem Koolhaas–designed facility in June 2015.
