If last night is any indication, it appears that Jeffrey Deitch is back! The art dealer and infamous Art Basel in Miami Beach party-thrower hosted an exclusive shindig at the Raleigh Hotel featuring a performance by pop icon and budding visual artist Miley Cyrus.

After a brief (read: 40-minute) wait in the massive line outside, we managed to infiltrate the glitter-laden space, where Cyrus mostly played covers, including songs by the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. The starlet was clearly aware that there probably wasn’t much overlap between her oeuvre and the musical tastes of the guests, and tapped the rock n’ roll canon accordingly. Cyrus also gave a seemingly heartfelt speech about the recent death of her dog, claiming that for the musician, 2014 has been a rough year.

Joining her on stage was Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, who provided accompaniment on several songs, along with some much-needed indie rock cred. The legendary band even served as an inspiration for some of Cyrus’s visual art, which was installed throughout the area. One painting riffed on the album cover for “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots,” inserting Cyrus’s face into the classic image.

For those unfamiliar with Cyrus’s artistic endeavors, the star has previously collaborated with fashion designer Jeremy Scott (who was spotted rocking out at the show) on a series of eclectic sculptures, and was even proclaimed “the real deal” by Deitch earlier in the day. The dealer went as far as to compare her “Southern outsider art” to that of Mike Kelley.

Unfortunately, the decidedly classed-up evening had a notable absence of twerking. Whatever happened to giving the people what they want?
