It’s a busy week for Paris’s art world. On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Franck Riester as the country’s new cultural minister, leaving many to wonder what this new era will look like for local art institutions. Meanwhile, FIAC prepares to launch its 45th edition at the Grand Palais in the nation’s capital.
It’s also a busy time for Laurence Dreyfus, an art advisor and curator based in the city. In addition to her work with clients at the fair, she has curated a show at Félix Vercel Gallery that marries modern masters like Picasso, Miró, and Klein with contemporary stars, such as Anish Kapoor and Olafur Eliasson. Titled “Chambres à Part,” it will be the last show held at the gallery in this location, which the Vercel family has occupied since the late 1960s. Later this fall, the gallery—now run by Félix Vercel’s son, Alain—will relocate down the block.

Despite the packed schedule, Dreyfus is excited about this moment for the Paris art scene.
“FIAC week attracts the greatest collectors and journalists from the whole world,” she tells artnet News. “The Paris art scene is more and more dynamic. Institutions and museums regularly organize major shows that can’t be missed. New arts organizations and foundations are appearing constantly, and while artist residencies around Paris are still relatively scarce, they are growing rapidly.”
