France in July is synonymous with one event: Bastille Day. In Paris, after watching the military parade on the Champs-Élysées in celebration of the formally named ‘La Fête nationale’ or ‘Le quatorze juillet,’ what better way to enjoy some quality time than by exploring the art scene offered by the city. Hopefully, July will allow you quiet days to explore ‘La Ville Lumière.’

Begin your art tour at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, which is displaying sculptures by Antony Gormley examining issues of the body and space. You have until the end of the month to see some exciting group exhibitions: Marian Goodman Gallery is presenting selected artworks by Christian Boltanski, François Morellet, and Richard Tuttle, and mfc-michèle didier is featuring works by Liam Gillick, Christian Barclay, and Annette Messager as part of the collaborative project “BLESS N°53 Contenttenders.”

If you enjoy photojournalism, you will be thrilled for two reasons. Marc Riboud’s career is honored at Polka Galerie, with 47 rarely shown prints, and the Jeu de Paume is revisiting the work of Germaine Krull, one of the best-known figures in the history of photography. A staple of French culture is celebrated at the Grand Palais, with the dazzling show “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier.” For more contemporary artworks, head to the Palais de Tokyo, where a new show just opened with artworks by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, who is currently representing France at the 56th Venice Biennale .

Once again, the French capital will delight you. What a relief to think, “We’ll always have Paris.”
