Guggenheim’s Abu Dhabi Reem Fadda Appointed Curator of the 6th Marrakech Biennale

Reem Fadda has been appointed as curator the 6th Marrakech Biennale (MB6), entitled “Not New Now” and slated to take place from February 24 to May 8, 2016.

Fadda is associate curator of Middle Eastern art for the Guggenheim’s Abu Dhabi project (see What’s Really Going On At Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island?) and currently based at the Guggenheim in New York.

“I am both excited and honored to curate the 6th edition of the Marrakech Biennale, alongside the various team members,” said Fadda in a statement. “The project will investigate the political and economical implications of the ‘new’ and focus on the present by particularly looking at art from the Afro-Asian axis,” she added.

The biennale was founded in 2004 on the premise of using art to address social issues. Next year’s exhibition will make use of Marrakech’s public spaces allowing, for the first time, access free of charge.

Fadda was previously director of the Palestinian Association of Contemporary Art, and academic director of the International Academy of Art, Palestine. She has also curated exhibitions internationally with a focus on Middle Eastern art.
