Must-See Art Guide: Cologne
This week's guide includes Rose Wylie, Ulrike Rosenbach, Jill Baroff, and more.
Welcome to this year’s edition of ART COLOGNE, one of the world’s oldest art fairs and a biggest highlights of the international fair circuit. Since its foundation in 1967 with just 18 galleries, it has grown into a major event that brings together some 200 international galleries representing the work of over 2,000 artists. And whenever a fair comes to town you can be sure that local galleries are going to be pulling out all the stops—so grab our list and get going. Head over to | PRISKA PASQUER for the feminist work of conceptual artist Ulrike Rosenbach, and then CHOI&LAGER Gallery for Rose Wylie’s riotous, hilarious paintings. Looking for something super current? There’s a bunch of openings today and tomorrow, too: Galerie Boisserée is presenting the graphic work of Carlos Cruz-Diez, while Galerie Buchholz is mounting a solo show of Caleb Considine, both of which are definitely on our radar. Finally, it’s worth checking out Galerie Heinz Holtmann for a three-person show of some young up-and-coming talent, including lyrical, playful abstractions of Alicia Viebrock.
If you want more of a scoop on ART COLOGNE, here’s an early response to the VIP preview. Meanwhile, find our full list of gallery picks below, and get busy.
