Hate Your Job? MoMA Is Hiring a Curatorial Assistant for Its Bruce Nauman Retrospective

Bruce Nauman, One Hundred Live and Die, (1984).

Feeling unsatisfied with your current job status? Maybe it’s time for a change—MoMA is looking for a curatorial assistant to help out with their upcoming Bruce Nauman retrospective.

In assisting the associate director for the preparation of the Nauman show, responsibilities include conducting research for the exhibition and its corresponding publication and administrative work in the context of curatorial functions. You’ll also assist with arranging loans, catalogue preparation, preparation of checklists including compiling and typing; coordinating and scheduling work to be done, including areas of conservation, photography, public information, matting, framing, construction, lighting, and so forth.

Assistants will also prepare and install wall labels, conduct daily inspection of the works on view, answer inquiries and conduct gallery tours for “necessary visitors.” Your job also entails taking care of the collection, expediting arrangements for custodial, registration, and preparation work as required by the curators for the maintenance of the collection in the gallery, study, and storage areas.

Think you got what it takes? Double check your resume for a master’s degree in art history, then make sure you’ve got expertise in art from 1960 to the present, and significant understanding of media and performance art.

Besides those two academic achievements, you’ll also need to be extremely organized (and detail orientated), write well, and be highly self-motivated and enthusiastic about working with a curatorial team.

If you’ve personally checked off all those boxes apply by sending your resume and cover letter (for consideration), to the following options:

By email: [email protected] (preferred option)

By fax: (212) 333-1107

By mail: The Museum of Modern Art

The Department of Human Resources
