Richard Phillips has joined the board of directors at Dallas Contemporary.

Phillips, the artist who creates those impossibly glossy, hyperrealistic paintings of bombshell women (among them are Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Lindsay Lohan in her prime—see Charlie Finch on Lindsay Lohan by Richard Phillips), is a high-profile member of the stable at Gagosian Gallery.

The non-collecting Texas museum has recently received international attention for a show of work by Loris Gréaud, who arranged to have his works smashed during the opening of the solo exhibition (see Loris Gréaud Smashes the Mold for Museum Shows), and later sent an angry, chauvinistic note to a local art critic who panned his theatrical approach (see Loris Gréaud Tells Critic She’s Undersexed and Ignorant, Is Loris Gréaud an Angry Chauvinist or an Art World Sociopath? Or Both?, and Did Loris Gréaud Punk Us All with Sexist Emails?).

“Dallas Contemporary has grown and evolved since its founding in 1978,” said Peter Doroshenko, executive director of Dallas Contemporary, in a press release. The institution has developed a seminal national and international presence through exhibitions with artists such as Zoe Crosher, Loris Gréaud, K8 Hardy, Georg Herold, Rob Pruitt, Jennifer Rubell, Julian Schnabel, Juergen Teller, and Piotr Uklanski.”

“As part of our institutional focus of commissioning new work for exhibitions and placing artists at the forefront of our mission, we are actively engaging new leaders in art and business outside of Dallas. We welcome Richard as a new board member during our growth in this important contemporary arts city. His insight as an artist and his international perspective will be very beneficial,” Doroshenko continued.

The museum currently has exhibitions of work by Nate Lowman, David Salle, and 2014 ArtPrize winner Anila Quayyum Agha (see Must-See Art Guide: Dallas and An ArtPrize Surprise Lights the Way to a Better Art World).
