Kara Walker’s Sphinx on Google Street View

"The Google Streetview camera pays a visit to #KaraWalkerDomino," as @CreativeTimeNYC put it on Twitter.

Can’t be bothered to wait in the long (but fast-moving) line for Kara Walker’s Creative Time project at the Domino Sugar Refinery? Not a problem! Per an image posted by the art non-profit on Instagram, the massive sugar sphinx and her candy attendants are being photographed by a Google Street View camera, and will soon be available for anyone with an Internet connection to explore on their computer or mobile device.

Walker’s racially charged colossus joins an elite squad of art institutions and exhibitions that can be experienced through Google Street View, like the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection galleries and collector Bernardo Paz’s Brazilian art park Inhotim. No word yet on when A Subtlety will make its Google debut, but the IRL exhibition closes July 7.
