An art exhibition of works by the former frontman of the pop band Steps, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, just opened in Wales, the Daily Post reported.

The 38-year-old Welsh singer, dancer, and stage actor’s exhibition at the Ffin y Parc Gallery, Llanrwst, features over 30 paintings inspired by the rural landscapes of his native Wales. “At home there’s the rolling hills and beautiful views, and up in the north there are the wonderful lakes and mountains,” he said.

At the opening event, Watkins revealed that he initially planned to attend the Cardiff College of Art before choosing to focus on his musical career.

“Painting has always been my first love and I’m more excited about this show, the first major exhibition of my work, more than any opening night of a concert, or any award I’ve won, or West End show,” he said.

The pop star also said that many works  are “reserved already and many people who have reserved them don’t know my background. It’s such a compliment.”

Watkins aims to dedicate more time to art in the future. “This year I’ve told my agent I’m concentrating on painting and nothing else.”

The exhibition at the Ffin Y Parc Gallery runs until April 22.
