Want to show your work at PULSE Miami Beach this December? The fair is holding an open call for submissions for its PLAY sector, which showcases video and digital art. What that means is that for the first time since PULSE was founded in 2005, artists who aren’t represented by galleries exhibiting in the fair will have the chance to show their work there.

PLAY will be curated by Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Jampol, the co-founders and directors of Newark’s Gateway Project Spaces, which opened its permanent home last April. Wahi got her start in the art world at South Asian art department at Christie’s auction house, while Jampol has helped lead a number of cultural and educational initiatives in the Newark area since graduating from Rutgers University-Newark in 2008.

“PULSE has always brought out some of the most innovative and exciting projects, and we really admire the vision and continued elevation of strong emerging and mid-career artists and galleries,” said Wahi and Jampol in a statement. “We can’t wait for this collaboration, and to see all the phenomenal video submissions.”

The duo will host a special PLAY preview at the Gateway Project Spaces in the fall. Submissions are currently being accepted through August 31, 2016, on the PULSE PLAY website and at [email protected]. Applicants are asked to put their name and “PULSE PLAY” in the email subject line.

In a statement, PULSE director Helen Toomer expressed her hope that the open call would “cast a wider net so that the curators will be able to capture eclectic works unified by their chosen theme.”

“The collaborative exhibitions at Gateway Project Spaces and PULSE Miami Beach are an exciting start to our newly developed year-round programming aimed at broadening the PULSE Contemporary Art Fair presence in burgeoning art communities around the world,” Toomer added.

PULSE Miami Beach will run in Indian Beach Park at 4601 Collins Avenue, December 1–4, 2016.
