Emma Lavigne Named Curator of 2017 Lyon Biennale
She has several blockbuster shows under her belt.

Emma Lavigne, director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz, has been named curator of the 14th Biennale de Lyon which will take place in 2017.
An official announcement on the biennale’s website explains that Lavigne has been invited by artistic director Thierry Raspail to co-curate the second consecutive iteration of the Biennale to focus on the keyword “moderne.” The previous edition in 2015, curated by Hayward Gallery director Ralph Rugoff, was titled “La vie moderne.”
Lavigne has been curator at the Centre Pompidou since 2008, and curated the much lauded Pierre Huyghe retrospective at the Centre Pompidou, which later traveled to the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, and to LACMA, Los Angeles. She also recently curated the Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster retrospective at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, which will tour to the K20 in Düsseldorf next month.
Lavigne was also curator of the French pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale, featuring Céleste Boursier-Mougenot’s project Révolutions.
Since taking up her appointment as director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Lavigne has curated, among others, the well-received exhibitions “Warhol Underground” and “Kimsooja – To Breathe.”
