Did Gwyneth Paltrow Bring Home a Basquiat From Art Basel in Hong Kong?

Gwyneth Paltrow, actress and founder of goop.com (the luxe-lifestyle website widely lampooned for its out-of-touch tone), was spotted at Art Basel in Hong Kong this past weekend eyeballing canvases by the painter.

What is it about Basquiat paintings that inevitably draw celebrities to them? From Leonardo DiCaprio (see Take a Look Inside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Growing Art Collection) to Madonna (see Madonna Says Jean-Michel Basquiat Took Back and Destroyed Paintings He Gave Her), ownership of a Basquiat has become the ultimate coveted art object by celebrities.

Paltrow was perched at Edward Tyler Nahem‘s booth, and took several photographs of the wares, reports Page Six. No word on whether or not she actually purchased anything or just used the photographs as fodder for the Flipagram video she posted earlier this week to her Instagram account. Perhaps we’ll spot her ‘gramming from the “Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks” opening in a few weeks (see Brooklyn Museum to Exhibit Rare Basquiat Notebooks)?

The star was also in Hong Kong to host the inaugural amfAR Hong Kong gala, which was attended by Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Marc Jacobs, and our pal Simon de Pury, a longtime supporter of the AIDS research foundation (see Simon’s World).

Speaking of Leo—despite being a no-show at the event, he auctioned off a seat at his table for his environmental foundation’s upcoming gala, as well as a day with him aboard his yacht, which raised $1 million for the organization. While the yacht sounds nice, we’d bid double for a private tour of his rapidly-expanding collection.
