The Harvard Art Museum has announced the appointment of Edouard Kopp as its new Maida and George Abrams Associate Curator of Drawings for the museum’s division of European and American Art.

Kopp previously worked as Curator of Drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, where he oversaw a number of successful exhibitions, including shows on French landscapes, Germanic drawings, works on paper by Gustav Klimt, and an exhibition devoted to 18th Century French drawings.

At the Harvard Art Museums, Kopp will be responsible for the university’s comprehensive collection of pre-20th century drawings. He will oversee the maintenance of the existing collection as well as the identification and acquisition of new works. He will also be entrusted with developing exhibitions, lectures, and other educational programs.

Interim head of European and American art, Ethan Lasser, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to welcome such an accomplished scholar and art historian to the Harvard Art Museums. Edouard brings a fresh perspective and rigorous eye to the storied collection of drawings, and his enthusiasm will engage audiences across the University and visitors from around the world.”

Kopp added “I am thrilled to have the invaluable opportunity to work with one of the finest drawings collections in the United States—and especially to do so within the unique and stimulating context of a university art museum.”
