A New York heatwave that caused temperatures to spike inside the Frieze tent didn’t stop the crowds of international dealers, collectors, and art lovers from making the trip to Randall’s Island.

Despite sauna-like conditions it was business as usual, gallerists were in sales mode animatedly pitching their artworks to the cast of buyers including Susan and Michael Hort, Mera and Don Rubell, and Marty Margulies, who were busy navigating the fair’s new layout.

Already, reports of sales began to trickle in, with David Kordansky reporting the sale of seven photographs by Torbjørn Rødland for between $14,000 and $28,000, and four Tom of Finland drawings for between $10,000 and $25,000, while Pace reported the early sale of an impressive 27 David Hockney works priced at $26,000 each.

While our reporters are in the field looking for more data, here are images that give a sense what the scene is like on Randall’s Island.
