Carriage Trade

THE DAILY PIC (#1794): “American Interior” is a lovely group show at the new Carriage Trade space on the Lower East Side in New York. I’m particularly keen on the way it mixes clever fine-art images of household spaces, altered by such figures as Richard Artschwager and Steel Stillman, with photos that you might call accidentally clever: Normal domestic environments that came to look like contemporary art after a natural disaster of some kind struck them. I’m showing one of those above, while below is documentation of an early Paul McCarthy performance, accurately titled Plaster Your Head and One Arm into a Wall, where the (un-)natural disaster on view is entirely artist-made.
