THE DAILY PIC (#1614): Rachel Harrison is one of those artists-who-work-with-a-camera who doesn’t consider herself a photographer – in part because she also does so much work mixing photos and sculpture. But in “Perth Amboy,” her current mixed-media installation at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, I couldn’t ignore her notable, straight-ahead skills with a lens.
The title of her MoMA installation comes from the New Jersey town where an image of the Virgin Mary appeared in an upper window of a modest house. With a few simple shots, Harrison seems to capture the import, and oddity, of that apparition. (©2016 Rachel Harrison, courtesy the artist and Greene Naftali, New York )
