The 2017 Fredrik Roos Art Prize, one of Sweden’s most prestigious for young artists, has been announced by the Moderna Museet, parceling out a total of 600,000 SEK (about about $68,000). The grant is limited to artists under 35, with the shortlist comprised of two MFA graduating students from each of Sweden’s five fine art universities.

This year, the recipients are Oskar Hult, a painter from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm; Jonas Silfversten Bergman, a painter graduating from the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts; and Josefine Östberg Olsson, a graduate of the Valand Academy in Gothenburg, who creates performances, drawings, and installations.

The selection committee included Daniel Birnbaum, Ann-Sofi Noring, and Iris Müller-Westermann from the Moderna Museet. The Moderna Museet Malmö hosts a ceremony and an exhibition opening today, on the birthday of the late collector and benefactor Fredrik Roos, who gave the prize its name. Tonight’s event promises a performance by Olsson “in which drummers challenge each other in a competition and the audience is invited to wager and win money.”

The show will be on view through April 16.
