On April 29 the Connecticut-based Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation revealed the identities of the three curators whose exhibitions will receive awards from the organization, one of which is curator Andrea Grover’s fantastic-sounding show of artist-built watercraft at the Parrish Museum of Art. Titled “Radical Seafaring,” it will feature works and documentation of projects by some 25 artists spanning the 1960s to the present, including specially-commissioned projects. Taking full advantage of the Parrish’s Hamptons location, the show will be accompanied by waterborne excursions throughout the East End of Long Island.

The two other recipients of 2014 awards from the Tremaine Foundation—which was founded in 1998 by the late collector Emily Hall Tremaine in New Haven, Connecticut—are Christian Larsen, who will curate an exhibition exploring the interactions between the US and Latin America in art from the mid-20th century to today at the Wolfsonian in Miami, and curators Ruth Estévez and Sohrab Mohebbi, who will mount a show chronicling the history of performing theories in contemporary art at Los Angeles’s REDCAT.

Grover will receive a $150,000 purse for her boat art show, as will Larsen for “Philodendron: From Pan-Latin Exotic To American Modern,” while Estévez and Mohebbi stand to get $115,800 to put toward “Hotel Theory.” In addition to those sums, each award-winner will get a living artist stipend to be distributed to artists whose preexisting works will be featured in their respective exhibitions.

The Tremaine Foundation’s Exhibition Award is given out ever two years; more than 40 curators submitted their shows for consideration this year.
