The details of Angelina Jolie’s surprise August 23 wedding to Brad Pitt are finally out, and they are surprisingly arty. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Jolie’s custom-designed Atelier Versace dress was an elegant ivory number featuring spaghetti straps and a ruched bodice, with colored drawings by the couple’s six children decorating the train and veil.
Jolie worked closely with Versace master tailor Luigi Massi on the creation of her gown, telling People (which shares an exclusive on wedding photos with Hello) that “Luigi is like family to me and I couldn’t imagine anyone else making this dress. He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together.”
Pitt, for his part, settled for a suit he already owned, and had to borrow a tie from one of his sons because he forgot to bring one of his own. Their children are 13- and 10-year-old sons Maddox and Pax, 9- and 8-year-old daughters Zahara and Shiloh, and 6-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
The dress, which brings to mind Grace Jones’s Keith Haring dress from 1987, is definitely non-traditional, but is a far cry from Jolie’s disturbingly eccentric attire during her second marriage, when she and husband Billy Bob Thornton were infamously known to wear vials of each other’s blood around their necks. (Jolie was also briefly married to her Hackers costar, British actor Jonny Lee Miller.)
It’s a toss up whether Brangelina tops Kimye as the celebrity wedding of the year—see “Annie Leibovitz Backed Out of Photographing Kimye Wedding” and “Annie Leibovitz and Kanye West Set Record Straight on Wedding Fiasco.”) Kanye West and Kim Kardashian certainly know how to whip the media circus into a frenzy, while Pitt and Jolie have kept relatively quiet about their wedding plans since getting engaged in 2012. The couple has been together since meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005.
