With NEW INC (“the first museum-led incubator”), the New Museum brings together practitioners working on the cusp of art and technology. As the inaugural year draws to a close, a selection of projects from the first intake are now on view at Red Bull Studios, and will be until they close Thursday, July 30.
Check out the video above for highlights of the cross-disciplinary projects that involve art, music, design, and technology in curious ways. There’s a Cotton Candy Theremin by Philip Sierzega and Emilie Baltz, an exploration of cloud architecture by Drew Seskunas of The Principals, and a light installation of sound-responsive fiber-optic spheres from Lisa Park and Kevin Siwoff.
The showcase reflects the NEW INC ethos. This new co-working space seeks to enable conversations and collaborations between the hundred artists, designers, and technologists chosen to participate in what NEW INC Director Julia Kaganskiy calls “a new paradigm in supporting creative practice operating at the forefront of technology.” In a recent interview, she said that NEW INC is “an initiative that takes the New Museum into new territory, expanding the museum’s support of creative practice here in New York to encompass a wider range of cultural production.”
