Sydney Art Museum Gets $184 Million for Expansion – Just one day after a New York Times article reported on the delayed expansion of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the museum announced it had managed to secure a budget of $244 million Australian dollars for the project. (New York Times)

The Getty Returns a 1st-Century Statuette to Italy – Zeus Enthroned joined the museum’s collection during the tenure of former antiquities curator Marion True, who was later indicted by the Italian government for illegal trafficking. Since then, the Getty repatriates artifacts whenever a foreign government submits compelling evidence that an object has entered the market illegally. (LATimes)

Kevin Beasley and Kellie Jones Get Talking – The artist and the art historian-slash-curator discuss Beasley’s practice and Jones’s new book, South of Pico, which explores the African-American artists in Los Angeles in the 1960s and 1970s. (ARTnews)

Animal Rights Activists Vandalize documenta 14 Artist’s Studio – The campaigners smashed windows and threw blue paint on the Athen’s work space of Aboubakar Fofana, whose piece for documenta 14 features 54 sheep—one for each country in Africa—that have their wool dyed in different shades of indigo. Andy Warhol’s First Self-Portrait Goes to Auction – The work, from 1963–64, is based on a photo-booth image, and has been in a private collection since 1980. It will go on sale at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art auction on June 28, and is estimated to fetch £7 million. (Press release)

Mitchell-Innes & Nash to Represent General Idea – The conceptual art collective, active from the 1969 to 1994, was vocal about issues of gender and sexuality, HIV/AIDS activism, mass media, and the role of the artist. Mitchell-Innes & Nash will now represent the estate, beginning with an exhibition of the “Ziggaraut Paintings” in November. (Press release)

What Is the Market for documenta 14 Artists? – Dealers at Art Basel are capitalizing on the market appeal of artists participating the quinquennial, currently taking place in Athens and Kassel. (The Art Newspaper)

The Market of Carol Rama Is Perking Up – With two splendid solo exhibitions currently on view at New York’s New Museum and Venice, the market of the late Italian artist, who died in 2015, is definitely having a moment. (Art Market Monitor)

COMINGS & GOINGS

National Museum of Women in the Arts Gets $9 Million Gift – Madeleine Rast, a California businesswoman who became a benefactor of the museum even before it had opened in 1987, bequeathed a record $9 million to the institution in her will. She passed away in January at the age of 92. (The Washington Post)

Phillips Names New International Specialist in Taiwan – Meiling Lee decamps from Bonhams to join Phillips as its International 20th Century and Contemporary Art Specialist, as the latest hire in house’s expansion in Asia. (Press release)

The New ICA Miami Building Is Completed – The museum will open the doors to its new, permanent home in the Miami Design District on December 1, 2017, just in time for Art Basel Miami Beach. (Press release)

Dallas’s Power Station Launches Artist Exchange Program – Called PROXIMIDAD, the exchange sends two artists on a month-long residency in both Dallas and Guadalajara, Mexico, and culminates in shows. (Glasstire)

Tino Seghal to Show in Moscow for the First Time – Presented by the VAC Foundation’s VAC Live platform, the New Tretyakov Gallery and Schusev State Museum of Architecture will exhibit a total of seven works by Seghal. (Press release)

Newly Authenticated Bosch Goes on View in Kansas City – The Temptation of St. Anthony, one of five attributed Bosches in the US, was authenticated in the Netherlands in 2015; on June 30, the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Missouri will display the painting. (Press release)

Simon Lee and Galerie Perrotin have joined forces at this year’s Art Basel, to present major works by Hans Hartung from the 1980s. The presentation represents the beginning of a partnership between the artist’s estate and the two galleries, which will both exhibit works by Hartung in 2018.
