“Allegorical Nudes”
JTT, New York
October 29-December 17, 2017

What the Gallery Says: JTT quotes the artist: “[T]hese nudes resist the easy assignment of meaning that is characteristic of traditional allegory. They offer themselves up as potential vessels of meaning, but do not allow us to flee from the sign or image to the idea it is meant to express. Instead we are left alone with the allegorical nudes themselves—to be considered on their own terms, as opposed to as allegories for something else.”

Why It’s Worth a Look: Kolsrud’s paintings seem carefree and critical at once, not an easy combination to pull off.
