The Armory Show is far from over—there’s still two more days of art fair madness left to go—but most of the VIPs have likely came, seen, and purchased by this point. After all, there’s a reason they call it a “VIP preview.”
So which boldface names stopped by the piers this year? We spotted actors Steve Martin, Neil Patrick Harris, and Russell Tovey, artist, director, and veritable national treasure John Waters, and R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe, in addition to ubiquitous art world notables like Jerry Saltz, Thelma Golden, Dustin Yellin, and artnet contributor and man-about-town Anthony Haden Guest. (Which made us wonder: Where were all the actresses this year?)
Martin was seen perusing the booth of Munch’s Galerie Thomas, where he was spotted next to famed sculptor Fernando Botero’s 2006 work Reclining Woman, and subsequently seemed entranced by a small bronze bust.
Sure, this smattering of celebrities is limited compared to the gilded halls of Art Basel in Miami Beach, where everyone from Miley Cyrus to Lenny Kravitz makes an appearance, and even to Frieze New York, where we caught a glimpse of Leonardo DiCaprio last year. We’ll just assume Leo was too busy polishing his new Oscar, or he is getting better at appearing incognito.
