Art historian and critic Jean-Pierre Criqui will be the new curator of contemporary art at the Centre Pompidou, in Paris, Artforum reports.

Criqui is a Pompidou veteran, having been editor-in-chief of the museum’s publication Les cahiers du Musée national d’art moderne for some 22 years. He also edited the MIT Press’s book ON&BY Christian Marclay, featuring essays by Wayne Koestenbaum, Rosalind Kraus, Zadie Smith and many others. He’s written essays on artists including Katharina Fritsch, Bernard Frize, Gabriel Orozco, Allen Ruppersberg, and Ken Price.

Before joining the Pompidou staff, Criqui served as advisor on contemporary art for the French Ministry of Culture.

Just this summer, the institution announced that former M+ associate curator Yung Ma would join the Centre Pompidou in Paris as curator in the contemporary and prospective creation department.

The museum suffered something of a black eye this spring, when its former director was found to have run up gigantic bills on taxis.
