Summer is just around the corner, and with it the opportunity to take advantage of all the art world has to offer—from visiting museums and galleries to traveling abroad for fairs and events, and, perhaps most valuable, expanding your knowledge and professional experience. For summer 2023, Christie’s Education has a full slate of courses available in all three of their locations, Hong Kong, London, and New York. As the only educational institute entirely owned and operated by a world-class auction house, enrolling in any one of their courses offers students access to an expansive and unparalleled body of resources and expertise. Partaking in the summer program at Christie’s Education is the perfect opportunity to begin—or expand on—your knowledge of the art world, serving as either a foundational element of continuing education or as a means to brush up on your expertise and further your career goals.
One of the first courses of the summer session will be held in Hong Kong with One Week in the Art World: Hong Kong (May 22–26, 2023). An incredible chance to take an art holiday, students will explore and discover the city’s top museums and get an inside look at Christie’s auctions. Program Director, Hong Kong, Sara Mao says, “Christie’s Education summer programs in Hong Kong will give participants and introduction to the art and luxury world through a practical and hands-on approach! Industry professionals, auction house specialists and Christie’s colleagues from the operations, legal, marketing and client service department will share their expertise and experience through a series of lectures, conversations, with opportunities to ask questions, experience the feeling of taking part in an auction, and see how a gallery puts together an exhibition. It is a great opportunity for students, recent university graduates, and anyone interested in a career in the art, auction, and luxury world to spend a week this summer and learn more about how to kickstart their careers!”
Christie’s Education London is offering a dynamic and diverse roster of available summer courses, including In Pursuit of the Artistic Treasures of East Asia (May 30–June 3, 2023), which focuses on everything from Chinese ceramics and Japanese woodblock prints to Korean lacquerware. A Deep Dive into Contemporary Art (June 12–16, 2023) will see students visit commercial galleries across London and learn about the contemporary art world and market, and the Exploring Art Tour: London (July 2–July 7, 2023) will take advantage of the city’s premier art scene, with visits to the top museums and galleries guided by art historians and market experts. In the Arts of Islam Across Time and Space (July 17–21, 2023), students will survey the history of Islamic art—from the 7th century through the present—and learn about its widespread influence in the history of art.
Finally, Christie’s Education New York will include, among others, Jewelry Jaunts: Diamonds on the Soles of Our Shoes (June 4–8, 2023), an opulent learning journey led by Bella Neyman looking at the world of diamonds. New York Art Now (June 12–16, 2023) and Art Business Summer School (June 20–24, 2023) offer practical and immersive instruction on the multifaceted and fast-paced city art scene and a comprehensive introduction to the art market respectively.
